Situated close to the Mthamvuna River, a mere 5km from the well-known holiday town of Port Edward on the Hibiscus Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, Vuna Valley Lodge offers families, backpackers and adventurers’ eco-friendly, comfortable and affordable accommodation.


Set in the valley under shady indigenous trees the lodge is a paradise for bird watchers.


Amongst the more than 250 bird species the specials of the Umtavuna region includes the Narina Trogon, African Finfoot, the African Grass Owl, and the African fish-Eagle which attracts visitors keen to encounter the rare birds, while the rarely seen mammals such as the Samango monkey and dwarf gecko offer sightings to patient visitors to the area.


Bush buck and blue duiker are regular visitors and lucky guests lounging at the pool may find the four-legged visitors nibbling at indigenous shrubs in the garden.

  • Samango Lounge will serve breakfast to guests accommodated at the lodge as well as the public.
  • Dinner is offered when booked ahead for in-house guest only.
  • Samango lounge is only open for lunch to the public. (No dinner)
  • Closed on Sundays and Mondays to the public
  • On day trips to the beach, the Wild Coast or on river outings a picnic lunch can be arranged.








  • Self Braai - We supply braai cutlery and crockery at no additional cost , as well as sell meat braai packs, ice, meat and pre booked salads.
  • Packed picnic lunches for hiking is also available.
  • Walks  : We outsource local activities such as village walks, fossil walks,
  • Birding (rare African finfoot and narina Trogon attract birders from all across the world) , fishing and many more.
  • Hiking : Various hiking trails among the Umtavuna nature reserve which is only 500m away from Vuna Valley Lodge.
  • Beach only 7km drive away.
  • Port Edward situated about 5km away.
  • Coffee lovers there is beaver creek estate also a mere 6km away.

Care is taken to minimise the impact of the lodge and the activities on the environment. No unnecessary printed material, conservative energy consumption, recycling, noise management,reuse of grey water and own herb garden are all important aspects of the product Vuna Valley Lodge.



Directionsfrom King Shaka International Airport:

  • Head southwest toward Mdloti Street - 700m
  • Take the 1st left onto Mdloti Street - 7,3 km
  • Keep right at the fork and merge onto N2 Road - 150 km
  • Continue onto R61 - 35,1 km
  • Turn left to stay on R61 - 6,3 km
  • At Port Edward traffic lights turn right onto Albert Road - 53 m
  • Turn left onto Izingolweni Road - 1,7 km
  • Turn left onto Old Pont Road - 1,3 km
  • Turn right to stay on Old Pont Road - 400 m
  • At the Old Pont Holiday Resort, turn right into Mitchell Road (gravel road) - 100m. Vuna Valley will be on your right.
